Hello! Even though Spring is not quite in the air yet, I had a very colorful weekend. Did you?
We all know that cats rule the internet, but in the past few weeks I have come across a couple of artists that use cats as their muse to create captivating, often hilarious and irresistible works. Check them out:
There is something so endearing about the kitties in Heather Mattoon’s Cats in Clothes series. I love that the outfit completely defines the personality of each cat. Also, I love how they feel so dignified and stately, albeit they are cats in clothes. She has prints, greeting cards and custom portraits available on her website.
I am confused and fascinated by Casey Weldon’s four eyed cat paintings. I can’t look away. Check out his blog if you want to get lost for a few hours in his pop culture and nostalgia driven pieces. They’re compelling.
Mimi Vang Olsen is a pet portraitist with a shop in the West Village. Although she paints all kinds of pets, her cat portraits are what really shine for me. I love all of the pattern play and folk quality of her work. I would love to visit her shop someday.
And, because I am a true cat lady, here are my favorite portraits of my own kitties via Instagram:
It has been windy, snowy and wet the past few days in New York. Here is an imaginary bright and fun Spring outfit to take the edge off.
Have a wonderful weekend, friends. Here are a few links I enjoyed this week:
Wild Belle’s new album Isles is streaming here and sounds like summer.
I love this oak bag.
I get to wear this gorgeous dress at my best friend’s wedding in June.
Speaking of, I keep thinking about my Matron of Honor speech at the wedding and have read this post (and cried) about seven times now. It is lovely and true and wonderful.
And, for fun, here is a photo of me and the best friend on Wednesday night behind the bookshelf bar The Quail built for our bonus room:
It is a beautiful piece and really deserves its own post, but this photo is too great not to share right now.
Have a good one!
“Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty
that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.”.
In that spirit, I did a little round-up of jewelry featuring emeralds. Some of it is dainty, some of it is over the top. All of it is lively, radiant, and lush.
I recently downloaded Instagram (my username is makaylamota, by the way) on my phone and here are some photos I snapped and posted this past week. It has been sunny and lovely in New York, so there have been a lot of walks around town, park visits, and fire escape people watching. Our roommate did move out a few weeks ago, so we are in the process of switching bedrooms. We painted the new bedroom green and are working on getting all of our things moved! I am planning on doing a “before and after” post soon, and I am so excited for everything to come together! We also discovered the entire series of “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” is on Hulu, have you ever seen it? We spent pretty much all of yesterday afternoon watching episodes and it is my new favorite thing. The stories are strange, great and so dramatic! I also love checking out the furniture and the clothes!
I have wanted to do a lemon yellow + bright blue combination since Gina’s comment on my peach + turquoise post. Lemon yellow + bright blue is such an easy warm weather combination, don’t you think? The weather in New York has been very warm and incredible this week. I’ve had the luxury of leaving work a bit early everyday and walking around the city, which has been so vibrant and alive. I love this city so much sometimes, still.
5. Daffodils + Dovie Moon
I am a big fan of the unexpected color combination. I clearly remember first thinking about this when I was much younger and reading the Flowers in the Attic Series (remember Carrie’s deep love of combining red and purple?). Peach and turquoise are just lovely together though, don’t you think? What is your favorite color combination?
I love pretty vintage cases for storage, and this pinky-orange one is fantastic.
Who doesn’t love Audrey? This would look so pretty in a soft pink bathroom.
Take this dancing. Immediately.
Prettiest notebooks ever and perfect for writing and doodling while you travel.
I am a huge fan of the short story. This book would be perfect for passing time while you travel, or curling up with during the cold winter months.
I love this vintage-feeling rose glasses with gold rims. Perfect for toasting the new year with the one you love.
Smooth satin polka-dot pajamas, need I say more?
I had every intention of finishing up the Holiday Gift Guide posts I had planned, but instead I spent the end of last week and all weekend sick on my couch. I realize it may be too late for this holiday season, but I thought I would post some of the collections I have been bookmarking for the past few weeks. First up is jewelry!
I have had my eye on these dainty astrological sign necklaces for awhile now. They would also make great birthday gifts.
Sweet. Simple. Perfect.
I love the geometric shape and that they’d be swingy on my ears.
I have obsessed over the Collette Ishiyama collection since I saw photos from her Lookbook posted online months ago. Brass and stingray, so chic.
Love, love, love these long dangling earrings. The turquoise beads, clear quartz and black triangle combination is so perfect.
6. Fail Jewelry
I bought my bridesmaid’s gifts from Christine Fail’s Etsy shop and she couldn’t have been kinder or more gracious. I love so many of her pieces, but I keep going back to these bangles.
I love a statement necklace. I want to wear this one with a white v-neck T, a long cardigan, jeans and boots.
